Ullrich holds commanding lead in Shannons Classic

Peter Ullrich has increased his lead in Shannons Classic to over one minute, but it was a tough day on the road for the frontrunners during the morning stages.

Peter Ullrich has increased his lead in Shannons Classic to over one minute, but it was a tough day on the road for the frontrunners during the morning stages.

“We had a bad morning; we weren’t quite on the pace, but you have days like that when you’re not quite switched on, but thankfully it got better this afternoon,” Ullrich said.

Leigh Achterberg, in a Porsche 944 has moved into outright second after Andrew White’s Volvo suffered a head gasket issue earlier in the day, however, White hopes to be back on the road again tomorrow.

“We’ve been overtaken by quite a lot of faster cars not in our class, and its upset our momentum and rhythm a bit,” Achterberg said.

“With our car once you lose momentum you have to wind it back up again – it’s all about keeping momentum.”

Paul Freestone lies in third place, two minutes 55 seconds in arrears of Ullrich.
