Roe in control after Day 5

Alan Roe maintains a comfortable lead in the Spirit of Tasmania and Duttons Garage Early Modern class, although Mark Balcombe in a 1995 Mazda RX-7 SP made some inroads into Roe’s lead after an excellent day from Strahan to Hobart.

Alan Roe maintains a comfortable lead in the Spirit of Tasmania and Duttons Garage Early Modern class, although Mark Balcombe in a 1995 Mazda RX-7 SP made some inroads into Roe’s lead after an excellent day from Strahan to Hobart.

Balcombe made up 37 seconds on the 51.37km Mt Arrowsmith stage, and will head into the final day three minutes and 24 seconds behind Roe.

“We’re a bit lucky to be honest. We had a badly slipping clutch for most of today, so we’ve been nursing it a bit, but we’ll be able to fix it tonight,” Roe said.

“Other than that, it’s been a faultless run, so we’re hoping we have enough of a lead now to finish on top tomorrow.”

Starting today in second place, and four seconds clear of Balcombe, Andrew Bollom has dropped back to third.

Bollom now sits almost one minute behind Balcombe, and has plenty of work ahead to try and reclaim second place when the final day gets underway tomorrow morning in Tinderbox.
