Winterbourn leads Greg Burrowes, also driving a Mitsubishi Evo, with Peter Mayer in a 2007 Porsche moving into third.

For Winterbourn, his sole focus now is making sure they get there car to the finish.

“It’s been two year since we finished on the podium in Modern and the car’s sat in the shed since then, so we thought we should bring it back out for the 25th anniversary Targa,” Winterbourn said.

“It’s been a good decision, but although we have a solid lead at this stage and it’s all about making sure we get it to the finish.”
