Marshall comes from behind to win TSD

After an intriguing final day in the Budget TSD Trophy competition, Darryl and Andrew Marshall have rocketed from third place to win the category in their Ford Falcon Ute.

After an intriguing final day in the Budget TSD Trophy competition, Darryl and Andrew Marshall have rocketed from third place to win the category in their Ford Falcon Ute.

Trailing by 12 points at the start of the day, the Marshalls put in a near flawless display over the final six stages to take a two point victory over the Alfa Romeo GT of Gerard Knapp and Roger Campbell.

Brian and Justin Marshall had victory almost in their sights after day five, but two poor stages on the final day cost them victory and relegated their to third place.

“It was very slippery on the last day, and maybe that helped us, but we’ve had a big week,” Marshall said.

“We started the day in third, but the competition’s been so tight this week – we were able to come out on top on the day and that’s given us the win.

“Over the past few days there’s been several lead changes and the points have been up and down, so it’s made the battle at the pointy end fairly intense.

“I have to thank my brother – the navigators are so much underrated in this category and without him there’s no way we would have pulled this off with the complexity of the TSD and average speeds.

“Our hope was for a top five finish, so we’re thrilled with the result.”
Fourth place went to last year’s winners, Alan and Heather Gluyas in a Toyota 86, with fifth place going to Neil Wrigley and Chris Neilsen in a Porsche Cayman R.
