Spearing to victory at the inaugural Targa Great Barrier Reef, the Marshalls clutch a tidy lead going into the deciding round, Targa High country from November 9-11.

The Queensland pair repeated their victory at Targa Tasmania in their 2002 Ford Falcon Pursuit Ute at the recently decided Cairns based event.

The Marshalls have moved their total to 170 points after leading home Peter and Tristan Taylor who now sit on 149 points.

“Targa Great Barrier Reef has been a very challenging event for us and probably the toughest roads we’ve been on,” Darryl Marshall said.

“We just held it together on the last day and did our thing like we did on the previous two days.

“We wanted to do this event, being the inaugural one and it was awesome.

“We’re hooked and we’ll definitely be coming back to do this event again.

“It’s confirmation of all the hard work we’ve done in Targa Tasmania over the years.”

Jeff Wilson and Ian Samson occupy third in the points on 140 in their 2010 Subaru WRX STI while Steve and Heather Brumby are next on 133 in a 1999 Alfa Romeo GTV.

The Brumby’s were just nudged out of third place at Targa Great Barrier reef after a solid run.
