Targa Tasmania 2019 Official Event Poster

2019 sees the first Targa Tasmania being run without two of its most iconic and record holding competitors taking part and whilst they will be at the event partaking in various other components, their absence from the results sheets will be obvious to the thousands of people who follow Targa Tasmania every year.

Of course, we are talking about Jim Richards and Barry Oliver, who won an incredible eight outright victories over just a ten year period from 1996 to 2006.

Fair to say that they would have also won in 1999 had they been able to compete for the full event with Jim having to race his memorable Volvo S40 and thus missing the back half the event. History now shows that his car went on to win for a 4thstraight time in the hands of Peter Fitzgerald and Michael Mansour.

This level of success over so few years will never been seen at Targa Tasmania again and Jim and Barry will always remain Targa’s first true legends in the eyes of everyone.

It is because of their success and the sadness with which we go into the 2019 event without them that we thought it was fitting and well-deserved to dedicate our 2019 collectors poster to Jim & Barry.

Make sure you grab yourself one and hang onto it tight!
