Hugely popular after a successful maiden running last year, Targa Great Barrier Reef offers an attractive opportunity for owners of the iconic German manufacturer to sample Targa competition on some of the most dramatic roads in Australia in safe and controlled conditions.

Porsche Cars Australia has been overseeing the Porsche Targa Tours since 2008 with customers eager to return to the tropics.

There are an impressive eight 911 GT3s as part of the Porsche contingent. Together with other 911 variants, the model makes up for over half of the Porsche Tour representation.

Other Porsches which will tackle the 16 Targa Stages across three days of competition include 10 Caymans, six of which are GT4s.

The 718 Cayman GT4 was unveiled in June with the machines powered by a new four litre, six cylinder naturally aspirated engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission.

The six cylinder horizontally opposed (boxer) engine offers 309kW of power, a fully tuned GT chassis and powerful brakes.

Highly experienced racing driver Luke Youlden, whose impressive career was punctuated by winning the 2017 Bathurst 1000 alongside David Reynolds, is confirmed as one of Porsche’s Tour leaders.

Other professional drivers commissioned by Porsche to lead groups off on the stages are Ian Dyk and Daniel Jilesen.

“Customers participating in Porsche Targa Tours have the opportunity to drive their own cars in a safe environment on the closed-road stages of the famed Australian Targa Championships,” said Toni Andreevski, Porsche Cars Australia director of Marketing and Motorsport.

“Led by our expert tour leaders groups of six to eight follow in convoy enjoying the beautiful scenery of the stunning National Parks around Cairns.

“Porsche Targa Tours are about spending time with like-minded people, exploring fantastic roads superb hospitality, camaraderie and the spirit of Porsche ownership.”

The Porsche Targa Tour is inclusive of high-end accommodation and meals.
